BORDERS
-

In December 2010, work on an ambitious new project started. It will be an old-fashioned, James-meets-Bond adventure, set in the 1980's and spread out over at least two albums. The cast is large, the locations numerous, including the Netherlands, former Yugoslavia, former Czechoslovakia, Austria, Russia, Malta and Kenya.

I'm releasing my inner Robert De Niro for this one, so in true "method cartoonist" style, I go where the characters go. This explains why I currently reside in Portugal, after spending several months in a little house in Eastern Europefollowed by half a year in Kenya.

I hope to finish the first album by early 2013.

CANTERBURY TALES GO DIGITAL

The English version of my "Canterbury Tales" comic (see below for description) is now available to iPad readers!

It has actually been listed in the Top 100 iPad book applications for some time.
LEGENDS FROM BRUSSELS
-

In June 2009 the book "Brussel in Beeldekes" was presented to the public. It was a collaboration between more than 20 members of the Flemish Comics Artists' Guild, including Yours Truly.
-
My contribution was the 3-page script of one of the medieval legends featured, drawn by Reinhart.
CANTERBURY TALES-
-
"The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer is a brilliant medieval literary masterpiece. It's also not so very well known nowadays (in my country at least), despite the fact that its content largely endures today. I figured it would make an equally (if not more!) brilliant comic strip.
I received a grant from the Belgian government to go and develop it and get it published.

My very first book "Verhalen Voor Canterbury" appeared in April 2009.

SED LEX
_
For the Juristenkrant, a Belgian newspaper focusing on juridir... iuridic... legal issues (which means its readers are all lawyers, judges or presumably criminals), I occasionally contribute some scripts for a bimonthly comic.
THE ADVENTOURISTS
_
I've started making this story in collaboration with Belgian writer Ivan Claeys. The colors are by Yves De Ridder. So far only the first eight pages are finished and have been published (December 2007) in PaPer magazine.

UNFAITHFUL SONG

Realising it had been nearly a year since my first published comic appeared online on the Pulp Deluxe website (see below), I decided to celebrate by making a new contribution.

As the mood of the comics on this site is generally a little darker, more "arty" than what I usually do, I ended up translating the lyrics to "Unfaithful Song", by singer-songwriter Everybody's Dead Dave, into images. The full comic can be read right here.
The video below combines song and comic and ends up being a wonderful karaoke version.

BROOK ROCK

_
The first issue of new magazine Het Salon included the 3 page story "Brook Rock", by Yours Truly with writer Peter Moerenhout and colors by Rik.

LUDEREI
-
Luderei is my alter alter ego, that I use to make parodies like these one page gags, spoofing some well known comics and artists. They are a fixture of Brabant Strip magazine since January 2007.

October 2006 was when things first started looking up. A short story called "Afstel" (no idea how to translate that), inspired by and proposed to the web-based, high-profile Pulp Deluxe was accepted and published on line: it was my first real breakthrough. Hooray for me! Click on the logo above to read the original online version.

The story has since been reworked and colored, and appeared in the Dutch comic magazine Myx in February 2007. These are the first three pages:

W.I.M.
-
Another day, another failure. In summer 2006, I tried my hand at a couple of old-fashioned one page gags. The main character, Wim, was based on a manager I had suffered on a previous job. I sent two pages in for a cartoon contest, which I subsequently (and quite gloriously) lost. They did, however, receive some favourable reviews when published on the Stripster site (9/9/2006).
-
AND WHY NOT?
-
These pages are from an early 2006 proposal I made for the producers of the TV show "Flikken" ("Cops"), which is immensely popular in Belgium and the Netherlands. I tried to reinvent the fine, fine character actors from the series as simple-but-believable cartoon characters.
-
It was a wild guess, and unfortunately proved to be an unrealistic one: they didn't go for it.
-
THE TRAP
-
"De Val" ("The Trap") is a 46 page police story I collaborated on with Belgian novelist Jo Claes (it was based on one of his books), around '99-'00. Some pages (like p.36-38 underneath) have been inked in, but the project was never finished.
